Railway

GAC’s mine and port are some 90 kilometres apart, and we use shared rail infrastructure to move our bauxite ore to the coast.

Each ore train consists of three locomotives and up to 150 wagons. Each wagon can hold 86 tonnes of ore.

The trains are loaded from the mine stockpile by a fleet of four front-end loaders. The load rate equates to less than two minutes per wagon.

Fully-loaded trains can carry some 12,900 tonnes of ore, similar in weight to the Eiffel Tower. The journey to the coast takes approximately three hours.
