At Guinea Alumina Corporation, we believe that rigorous, robust and innovative management is essential to ensure the responsible production of bauxite.
GAC was the first company in Guinea to achieve certification to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Performance Standards.
ASI provides an international consensus on what constitutes best practice in the production of aluminium and its use.
The ASI Performance Standards have been developed through a global, multi-stakeholder standard setting process with input from companies operating throughout the aluminium value chain and from public consultation. The standards address sustainability issues all the way from bauxite mining to the production of consumer products made with aluminium, on three key fronts, Environment, Social and Governance.
Mining activity comes with inherent challenges and potential environmental and social impacts associated with land-use change. Strong corporate governance, a focus on environmental performance and a commitment to making positive contributions to society are all part of our culture at GAC. But there are always improvements we can make.
All our activities in the Republic of Guinea are aligned with the International Finance Corporation’s Sustainability Framework. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium, we are committed to embedding sustainability in everything we do and aspire to be measured among the world’s most responsible mining companies.
