GAC builds Tanene primary school

On Friday, July 21, 2017, GAC participated in the laying ceremony of the first stone in the construction of a primary school in Hamdallaye, central district of the sub-prefecture of Tanènè.
Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), a major player in the mining sector in the Republic of Guinea, is a mining company dedicated to the development of its bauxite export project in the Boké region, which is investing heavily in local communities.
As a reminder, today more than 5,500 children are attending the 9 schools already built by GAC in the region of Boké. 1,732 people from the region have benefited to date from the adult literacy program initiated and funded by GAC. 60 young people have been trained in computer science and more than 500 people received training in various trades as part of the training program at the Boké Vocational Training Center.
It’s because of the Company’s interest to continue these actions, that GAC financed the construction of this building, which includes two blocks, of which the 1st will be comprised of three classrooms, offices, and a store. The second block will consist of three classrooms as well as latrines and a borehole for the supply of drinking water.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the community authorities, Prefectural and sub-Prefectural authorities of the education sector, and local Imams.
According to the beneficiaries, this school comes at the perfect time to overcome the problems of under-capacity for educating the youth of the locality of Tanènè which is currently directed by the authorities under Prefectural education.
The central Imam of Tanènè confirms this fact in these terms, "Little by little, we are witnessing the development of Tanènè through the assistance of several companies. I exhort you, son of Tanènè to show maturity because cooperation with these companies will be a win-win situation. You cannot claim to work in these companies if you do not have knowledge, you cannot claim to be a director in these companies whose vehicles pass all day long before your eyes if you do not have knowledge. Fill these classes, take care of the building, and the teachers, so that other companies like GAC will also do.'
The ceremony was closed with prayers for peace and the good coexistence of GAC with local communities.
With this new initiative, GAC intends to renew its commitment to support community development.
