GAC strengthens its commitment to Gender diversity and Inclusion

Kamsar, Tuesday, June 18, 2024 – On the occasion of International Day of Women in Mining (IDWIM), Guinea Alumina Corporation S.A. (GAC) reaffirms its commitment to gender diversity and inclusion in the mining industry. GAC is committed to increasing the representation of women in its production chain, which has traditionally been male-dominated. Through our continuously evolving Diversity and Inclusion Policy, we are witnessing a growing female presence in both technical and support roles.

In 2023, women made up 26% of the new hires, showcasing the success of our longstanding policy. This policy was implemented with the goal of offering fair employment opportunities, especially to women who are still underrepresented in the mining industry. By ensuring equal qualifications, women now have increased opportunities to join our team. Additionally, we are committed to supporting the professional growth of women already working at GAC through tailored training and leadership initiatives.

We actively promote women-led businesses by expanding their representation within our network of suppliers for goods and services. Our local content policy is designed to boost their competitiveness through qualification programs and incentive measures to strengthen their participation in our supply chain.

Youssuff Sylla, the Director General of GAC, stated: ‘Our mission is to support Guinean women in their professional pursuits. At GAC, women will discover a wealth of opportunities for career advancement and personal well-being. We encourage women to take the lead, as we firmly believe in their capacity to bring about positive change in both the industry and our everyday lives.’

This commitment to creating a thriving economic environment extends to the women of the Boké region, particularly those within our mining concession. Through our support programs in education, agriculture, livestock, and commerce, we strive to ensure that these women have the resources they need to achieve financial independence.

On the occasion of the International Day of Women in Mining (IDWIM), GAC reaffirms its commitment to creating a fair and equal world where both men and women work together to construct a brighter tomorrow.
