The "GAC Skills" program continues ...

As part of its commitment to train 200 young Guinean men and women, Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC SA), a major player in the mining sector in the Republic of Guinea, is pleased to announce the launch of its training program for young people from the Sangarédi - Boké - Kolaboui and Kamsar corridor.

This project consists of developing the skills of approximately 150 young Guineans in various fields related to mining operations, including: mechanics, electricity, electrical engineering, and maintenance...These are specialized fields associated with mining logistical operations, and will enable employment opportunities amongst the other mining companies in the region.

This program, "GAC Skills” was launched in 2014, and has already trained 49 Guinean youths in management-related occupations through its parent company, Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), based in the United Arab Emirates. With the training of these 150 additional young people in mining-related trades, the program will eventually have trained more than 200 young Guineans.
The announcement of the start of registrations was made at 100 villages in the Boké region by GAC’s community team. This announcement generated enormous interest amongst local communities, with a total of 4500 applications bring registered at GAC’s employment centers located at Kamsar, Boké and Sangarédi. More than 600 of these applications will be subjected to an aptitude test, conducted by the South African company, Cowan Training & Consulting, a specialist in this field. Cowan will complete the selection process of approximately 150 final candidates who will embark upon the program.

Training will be provided by Australian experts and will provide opportunities for learners to compete in the regional and national job markets.

In the presence of Mr Daniel Pop, GAC's Director of Operations, the first group of 306 young people started the aptitude tests in Tinguilinta.

Elie Frank, a recruitment consultant and test supervisor for Cowan commented that: "This is a great opportunity that every candidate should take seriously. GAC offers the best of you the opportunity to benefit from this free training."
Through this new initiative, GAC reiterates its determination to create opportunities, and to support the development of Guinean talent.
